Founded in 2008, Institute of Econometrics of Nankai University established master disciplines in 1998, and doctoral disciplines in 2000. The institute currently has 10 full-time teachers, of whom 9 are doctors, 4 have overseas doctoral degrees and 70% are young teachers under 35 years old. It specializes in studying Quantitative Economics and Statistics and teaching Quantitative Economic, Statistics and other quantitative analysis lessons at the School of Economics.

The institute has been actively working on the studies and has undertaken more than 10 projects commissioned by National Social Science Fund, National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), the Ministry of Education, National Bureau of Statistics, People’s Bank of China, General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) and so on, of which 2 have won ministerial awards. 40 academic papers are published on CSSCI source journals and 11 textbooks and academic monographs came off the press.

The institute pays high attention to teaching and discipline construction. In 2009, it has completely renewed the syllabus, teaching plan and course introduction of its 14 courses, and strengthened the construction of teaching material system. Taking Econometrics as an example, a set of relatively complete and systematic teaching material was compiled, the Methodology and Application of 21st century Quantitative Economics series was published, and a website of quality courses on Econometrics was established. In 2007, a master’s course Intermediate Econometrics was awarded model quality courses of Nankai University, and in 2008, an undergraduate course Econometrics was awarded municipal quality courses of Tianjin.

The Institute has been actively engaged in academic exchange activities, and its director has lectured at Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Jilin University, Shanghai University of Finance and more than 20 colleges and universities and research institutions. It has invited 10 world renowned scholars on Econometrics to give lectures, and has held three national academic seminars to promote exchanges on inter-school teaching and studies.
