Enrollment Brochure of EMBA (Finance) Program

The Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Program (Finance orientation) of Nankai University (hereinafter referred to as Nankai Finance EMBA Program) is a high-end education program established and provided by Nankai University. On the basis of Nankai’s century-long history of disciplines of economics and management, the program aims to nurture senior financial managers with good business morality and strategic awareness, excellent innovative capacity and leadership, systemic understanding of financial management knowledge, and the competence to meet the needs of international competition.

At the very beginning of the establishment of Nankai University in 1919, its business discipline was set up. In 1991, the first conference of the coordinative group of the national Master of Business Administration (MBA) education was held at Nankai University, and thus the University became one of the first nine pilot universities in China to experiment with the MBA education after reform and opening-up. It is worth mentioning that the then Director of Department of Finance of School of Economics, Professor Qian Rongkun, was designated to be the Director of China National MBA Education Design Committee by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, becoming the pioneer and practitioner in the history of MBA education in China.

In the August of 2002, Nankai University was among the first 30 universities to launch Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) Program according to the [2002] No.64 document of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee of the People’s Republic of China.

In 2012, Nankai University established its Finance EMBA Program, hosted by School of Economics, and began to enroll students in December at the same year.

The major training orientations of Finance EMBA Program include: finance, capital market and investment, risk management and crisis management, currency and financial market, senior commercial bank management, and commercial law and corporate operation.


I. Enrollment Objects

Directors of economic department or department of financial supervision and regulation, senior managers in financial institutions, corporate presidents, general managers, chief financial officers and financial directors, and other types of senior managers.


II. Admission Qualifications

  • Good personal morality, observance of laws and regulations;

  • Bachelor’s degree within the National Education Systems;

  • More than 8 years of working experience, including more than 4 years of management experience.

  • Taking the Chinese Graduate Student Entrance Examination and meeting the score requirements of Nankai University

III. Application Procedure

Applicants need to submit the following printed materials:

  • Application form

  • Copy of applicants’ valid ID card (Two-sided copy on Paper A4)

  • Original and copy of diploma and degree certificate (2 copies)

  • Verification report of degree (original)

  • Paper with self-determined title (2000 words)

  • Reference letters (2 letters)

  • Name card (2 cards)

  • One-inch recent bareheaded color photo (Eight photos, with white background)

IV. Entrance Examination and Admission

Applicants should take the Chinese Graduate Student Entrance Examination and meet the score requirements of Nankai University. Those who pass the examination will get the letter of admission and then go through the relevant admission procedure.


V. Tuition Fee

Tuition fee is 268,000 yuan, including fees for lectures, teaching materials, reference books, library resources, graduation dissertation guidance, domestic and foreign visits.


VI. Goals and Requirements

  • Program Duration: 2 to 2.5 years in general, and students can apply for extension of duration in special circumstances;

  • Credits: According to [2002] No.64 and [2007] No.82 documents of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee, Nankai EMBA Program implements the credit system, namely, students need to get 36 credits before applying for the degree, among which 32 credits are for courses and 4 for graduation dissertation. Moreover, the time interval between the time of completion of all courses and the time of dissertation defense should be no less than three months in general before students apply for the degree.

  • Dissertation Writing and Defense:After completing all courses and passing all examinations of the courses, students should also pass the dissertation defense. Nankai University will confer Master’s Degree on students who meet the stipulated requirements and present them with Certificate of Degree of Executive Master of Business Administration.

VII. Teaching Arrangements

  • Location of Courses: Most courses take place in Nankai University, and the other outside the University;

  • Time of Courses:Courses will be given intensively in four days of every month (usually on weekends);

  • Forms of Courses: The major part of courses is case lecturing, and other forms of courses include group discussion, teacher-student interaction, experience investigation, simulated practice, etc.;

  • Forms of Examinations: Open-book examination or paper writing are adopted;

  • After-Class Activities: Enterprise visits, domestic or foreign visits, and other activities are regularly organized;

  • Other Arrangements: Courses taught by some foreign professors are equipped with interpreters.

IX. Interaction and Exchange

The EMBA platform, which integrates advanced teaching resources of Nankai University, is freely accessible for students enrolled in the Finance EMBA program during their school year and after graduation. Students can participate in various club activities, get updated on their alumna/alumni and maintain long-term communication and cooperation with their peer students.

The program highly attends to students’ core needs in individual and career development, and tries to create an interactive platform with distinctive features in knowledge, networking and career development, so as to provide students with the most valuable social interaction model and networks beneficial for individual or business development. Students can be both beneficiary and contributor in a way that their resources are channeled through the EMBA project to the platform for cross-industry and cross-regional dialogues and win-win exchanges and cooperation between themselves.
