Nankai-Keio Joint Program
Duration of Stay and Number of Exchange Students:
The duration of stay for exchange students shall be one semester or one year. One one-year student is equivalent to two one-semester students.
In each academic year starting in September, each Party may send up to the equivalent of two one-year students. The number of students to be exchanged can be changed with the written consent of both Parties.
The two Parties aim to achieve a balance in the number of students exchanged over a period of three years.
Selection and Nomination of Exchange Students:
The home institution will be responsible for screening and selecting students according to the host institution's requirements and shall nominate outgoing students before the deadline specified by the host institution. For Nankai students applying for an exchange stay at Keio and who wish to study in English the minimum English language score required is a TOEFL iBT score of 90 or an IELTS score of 6.5. For Nankai students applying for an exchange stay at Keio and who wish to study in Japanese, the minimum Japanese language score required is Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) level N2. For Keio students applying for an exchange stay at Nankai, they need to be proficient in either English or Chinese.
The host institution reserves the right to reject nominees on the grounds of insufficient academic performance and/or language skills that do not satisfy the requirements, but neither party will reject any candidate on the grounds of nationality, gender, race, age, disability or religion.
Enrollment of Students:
The participants in the exchange program will remain candidates for degrees at their home university and will be enrolled at the host university as full-time non degree students.
The participants of the exchange program shall enjoy the same rights as other international students of the host institution regarding library access, academic support, sport facilities, etc.
Participants in the exchange program must agree to comply with the regulations of the host university and the laws of the host country.
The host institution will provide participants in the exchange program with appropriate assistance in matters related to health, language and local customs (but this assistance does not involve any financial assistance.).
Workload & Transcript:
The participants of the exchange program shall meet the minimum workload required by the host institution. Undergraduate Nankai students studying at Keio and possessing a Japanese student visa must take a minimum of seven courses in order to satisfy the Japanese Government's visa requirements, and the seven courses must include a minimum of four courses offered by the Faculty of Economics. These students can also choose courses offered outside of the Faculty of Economics (including up to 2 Japanese courses) subject to satisfying prerequisites and to meeting capacity constraints. Graduate Nankai students studying at Keio must engage in at least 14 credit hours of classes (7 courses) per week (Non-research students) or an equivalent amount of research activities (“Research students). These students can also choose courses offered outside of the Graduate School of Economics (including up to 2 Japanese courses) subject to satisfying prerequisites and to meeting capacity constraints. Undergraduate Keio students studying at Nankai must enroll in a minimum of 4 credits (2 courses) and a maximum of 18 credits (6-9 courses) per semester. Graduate Keio students studying at Nankai must enroll in a minimum of 4 credits (2 courses) and a maximum of 18 credits (6-9 courses) per semester. These students can also choose courses offered outside of the school of Economics (including Chinese language courses) subject to satisfying prerequisites and to meeting capacity constraints.
The host institution shall send the transcript of each exchange student to the home institution and each exchange student by the end of the second week of the following semester or two weeks after the results are publicly released whichever is earlier.
The home institution shall recognize the credits earned by the exchange students at the host institution according to its rules.
Costs to be Borne by Students and Insurance:
Exchange students shall pay tuition fees to their home institution and the host institution will waive their tuition fees. However, the exchange students shall pay for their own and their dependents’ travelling, living, accommodation, insurance and medical costs and any other expenses resulting from the exchange. The Parties agree that neither Party shall bear any financial responsibility to the other Party under this Agreement.
Exchange students are required to carry adequate health insurance for the entire period of her/his stay at the host university. Keio students who study at Nankai shall pay for an insurance at NKU which is compulsory.
