(Correspondent: Website administrator) Recently, the paper Anti-corruption and Poverty Alleviation: Evidence from China, co-authored by Xu Gang, Assistant Professor at Nankai Institute of International Economics, Han Linsong, master student of Industrial Economics Class of 2020, and Li Xun, Associate Professor at School of Economics and Management of Wuhan University, was published in the leading international journal of economics, Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization(JEBO), November, 2022.

Based on data of China Family Panel Studies, the paper finds that anti-corruption campaign has significantly reduced poverty incidence since the 18th Party Congress. The poverty reduction effect of anti-corruption is achieved by three main mechanisms: increasing the accessibility of government subsidies, improving the business environment, and strengthening formal credit support. Further analysis indicates that unrelated families and low-income families benefit more from the anti-corruption campaign. In general, this paper provides a new political economy perspective to explain China’s poverty reduction achievements.
