Taube is professor of East Asian Economic Studies / China at the Mercator School of Management and, as a director, chairs the in-EAST School of Advanced Studies at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Since 2009, he has been co-director of the Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr, based in Duisburg. He is responsible for the programmed area Economics of China. In 2013, he was appointed by the city of Tianjin (China) as a One Thousand Plan - Professor of Tianjin City and as an Outstanding Professor of Nankai University, Tianjin, (2014-2016).
After studying sinology and economics in Trier and Wuhan (China), he earned his doctorate at the Ruhr University Bochum. For his dissertation he was awarded the Walter-Eucken price. From 1996 and 2000, he was employed at the Ifo Institute for Economic Research in Munich. He is a founding partner of THINK! DESK China Research & Consulting, Munich - Hong Kong.
