(Correspondent: Feng Zhixuan) From October 26 to 27, the 33rd national conference on socialist economic theory and practice in universities was held in Nankai University.

Many experts and scholars attended the opening ceremony. Delegates including Chen Zhemin, member of the standing committee of Tianjin municipal party committee and minister of publicity department, Yang Qingshan, party secretary of Nankai University, Hong Yinxing, professor of Nanjing University, Liu Wei, president of Renmin University of China, Wu Xuangong, professor of Xiamen University, Huang Taiyan, president of Minzu University of China, Pang Jinju, professor of Nankai University. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof. Sheng Bin, dean of school of economics of Nankai University.

The main themes of this conference are summarizing and expounding the inherent logic and law contained in 70 years of historic change of new China, and thoroughly exploring the path, theory, system and cultural advantages of socialism with Chinese characteristics. In addition, there are in-depth discussion on such major topics as the theory of socialist economic development with Chinese characteristics, the further improvement and development of the basic economic system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the promotion of high-quality development and the construction of the discipline system, academic system and discourse system of socialist political economy with Chinese characteristics.

Chen Zhemin said that the national conference on socialist economic theory and practice in universities has always adhered to the development path of socialism with Chinese characteristics and the innovation of Marxist theoretical economics and practice in the 33 years of cultivation, which reflects the development process of socialist economics with Chinese characteristics. He is looking forward to all the guests in the conference, to promote xi economic thought, interpret China's economic miracle, create the new era of China's economics academic discourse system, and contribute to the high-quality development in Tianjin.

Professor Yang Qingshan, on behalf of Nankai University, extended warm congratulations on the opening of the conference and a sincere welcome to all the experts and scholars. He said that the conference is an important platform for talent training and with great influence. The discussion offered suggestions for China's reform and opening up and socialist construction, and made an important contribution to the prosperity and development of China's economics.

Professor Pang Jinju delivered a speech on behalf of the leading group of the national conference on socialist economic theory and practice in universities, saying that economics is an important subject of socialist philosophy and social science with Chinese characteristics. Economists are responsible for training socialist builders and successors, contributing scientific theories and providing policy advice. We should strengthen the building of world-class economic disciplines with Chinese characteristics, train builders and successors of socialism, and intensify scientific research on major theoretical and practical issues raised in the course of modernization, so as to contribute to the prosperity of China and the peaceful development of the world.

Professor Liu Wei said that since the 18th national congress of the CPC, socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, formed Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era at a new historical starting point, and opened up a new realm of adapting Marxism to China. At this symposium, we will further elaborate Xi Jinping thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, build a system of economic theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics, and make new efforts for the country's prosperity, national rejuvenation and people's happiness.

The fourth Xinghua Excellent Paper Award ceremony was held during the opening ceremony. Warmly celebrate professor Wei Xinghua won the people's educator most beautiful striver national honorary title. Professor Huang Guitian, president of Shanxi University, announced the winners. They are Bai Yongxiu, professor of Northwestern University, Ge Yang, professor of Nanjing University, Song Donglin, professor of Jilin University of Finance and Economics, Zhang Huiming, professor of Fudan University, Jiang Yongmu, professor of Sichuan University, Li Jianjian, professor of Fujian Normal University.

Professor Hong Yinxing presented the prize to the winners. When introducing professor Wei Xinghua's academic thoughts, he said that Mr. Wei had been a rigorous scholar all his life, accurately interpreted and applied Marxist classic works, and made outstanding contributions to China's economic and social development.

Then, Prof. Liu Wei, Prof. Pang Jinju, Prof. Huang Guitian, Prof. Chen Zongsheng, Prof. Song Donglin, Prof. Zhang Huiming, Prof. Shen Kunrong, Prof. Sheng Bin and Prof. Wu Xuangong delivered keynote speeches on the conference theme.

On the afternoon of October 26, the participants held a special discussion about four topics. The topics are about a theoretical study of 70 years of economic development in new China, the improvement and development of the basic economic system of socialism with Chinese characteristics, research on high-quality development of China's economy, and study on political economy of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

During the conference, we also held the third plenary meeting of the teaching steering committee of economics in higher education of the Ministry of Education, the conference of dean of school of economics and the book launch of Prof. Hong Yinxing's new works Development Economics in the New Era.

On the morning of October 27, Prof. Liu Fengyi and Prof. Junshan Zhang gave a speech. At the closing ceremony, Prof. Hong Yinxing awarded to the school of economics of Nankai University. In addition, we held the handover ceremony of the conference flag. The 34th national conference on socialist economic theory and practice in universities will be hosted by the school of economics of Zhejiang University next year.
