(Correspondent: Wang Tianjian) Recently, “The Annual Report on Chinese Private Enterprises Outward Foreign Direct Investment Index 2021” completed by Professor Xue Jun’s research team was published by People’s Publish House. It is Professor Xue Jun’s fifth report in a series of reports on “Chinese Private Enterprises OFDI Index”, since 2017.

Focusing on the new features and situation of the OFDI of Chinese enterprises , the report sets a new section of “specific analysis” aside from the existing two sections of “index analysis” and “co-movement and forecast”. Themed at “strategies for the OFDI of Chinese private enterprises under the new circumstance of global innovation protection”, this report analyses the issue from the aspects of the innovation effect and innovation protection of OFDI, respectively, and offers suggestions on promoting healthy and steady development of the OFDI of Chinese private enterprises.

The report includes three main highlights:

Firstly, the data in the report come from the NK-GERC database established by Professor Xue Jun’s team. Using the statistics from 2005 to 2020, the team constructed a six-level index system of “Chinese Private Enterprises OFDI Index” and calculated the related indices from multiples levels, which comprehensively present the features of the development of Chinese Enterprises’ OFDI since China joined WTO and provide more detailed information for the research on the OFDI of private enterprises.

Secondly, the report compares different parts of China’s OFDI classified by their types of ownership and examines the co-movement between Chinese private enterprises’ OFDI and macro-indices. By constructing econometric models, it assesses the influence of core factors on enterprises’ OFDI and predicts the trends of China’s OFDI from 2021 to 2022.

Thirdly, the report analyses the OFDI of Chinese private enterprises under the new circumstance of global innovation protection from perspectives of the innovation effect and innovation protection of OFDI, respectively.

The report screens the full sample data of OFDI by all Chinese enterprises from 2005 to 2020, which fills the gap of the research data of private enterprises’ OFDI. It shows the status quo of Chinese private enterprises’ OFDI in a more comprehensive way, and thereby provides significant support to the construction of a sustainable mechanism for it.
