Nankai’s Digital Economy Undergraduate Subject & "Digital Economy Lecture" Launching Ceremony Held Successfully

(Correspondent: Zhong Yiming) On September 29th, the launching ceremony of Nankai’s Digital Economy undergraduate subject as well as “Digital Economy Lecture” was held in Xingshen Building. Professor Chen Jun, Vice President of Nankai University, attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Professor Gong Ke, director of Academic Committee, gave the first lecture of “Digital Economy Lecture”. The opening ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Peng Zhiwei, director of the Department of International Economics and Trade of the School of Economics.

At the ceremony, Vice President Chen Jun, Professor Tong Jiadong (head of the Digital Economy subject), and Professor Sheng Bin (dean of the School of Economics) delivered speeches respectively. Vice President Chen Jun, Professor Tong Jiadong and Professor Li Chuanyong (director of Academic Affairs Office), launched the construction of Digital Economy undergraduate subject jointly. The new subject was approved by the Ministry of Education in early 2022, and welcomed its first freshmen this fall semester, with aim to cultivate interdisciplinary talents with a solid foundation of economics theory and mathematics, professional quality of governing and benefiting the people, broad global vision, deep understanding of China’s national conditions, and a good command of digital economy and trade rules. The study duration is 4 years, leading to a bachelor’s degree in economics.

Professor Chen Jun pointed out in his speech that the establishment of Digital Economy subject is an important innovation and exploration measure for Nankai University to respond to the major development strategy needs of our country under the background of a new round of global scientific and technological revolution. He hoped that the School of Economics would take the construction of first-class discipline as an opportunity to do a good job in interdisciplinary and cross-unit coordination, continuously improve the level of training of top-notch innovative talents in digital economy, and strive to build Digital Economy undergraduate subject into a new brand of Nankai University.

After the ceremony, Professor Gong Ke gave the first lecture of “Digital Economy Lecture”, titled “Digital Economy: What to Learn? How to learn?”, and had in-depth interaction with teachers and students. The lecture was presided over by Sheng Bin, Dean of the School of Economics.

Relevant officials of Teaching Affairs Office and the School of Economics, major teachers of the School of Economics, new students of Grade 2022 Digital Economy and students of grade 2021 Digital Economy (Elite Class) participated in the activity.
