Wei Zhong is currently a research fellow and doctoral supervisor at Institute of Economics, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and the chief editor of the journal Researches in Chinese Economic History. He graduated from the Division of Economics, Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2003 and obtained his Doctor’s Degree in theoretical economics. He is also the General Secretary and Vice President of the Academic Forum for Chinese History of Economic Thoughts, and the Deputy Head of the Research Center for Poverty of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He entered the list of the National Talents Project in 2017, received the special allowance from the State Council in 2019, and was rated as the 2016-2020 advanced individual of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 2021.

He has long been engaged in the research on Chinese economic development, and has focused on the research on Chinese modern and contemporary history of economy and thoughts. His main interests include Chinese economic development and transformation, income allocation and social insurance, rural development and poverty alleviation and the economic development for ethnic areas. He has several times conducted policy research and provided policy consultation for related departments of the Central Committee, and hosted many research projects at national and provincial level. He won the 16^th Sun Yefang Economic Science Award, Outstanding Research Awards of CASS, and the Award for Chinese Rural Development Research.
