Assistant Professor Isabella Weber from University of Massachusetts Amherst Had an Academic Visit to Our School

(Correspondent: Feng Zhuoran) Invited by the Department of Economics of our school, Dr. Isabella Weber, Assistant Professor of the Department of Economics, University of Massachusetts Amherst, USA, visited Nankai University on March 22nd and 23rd, and gave academic lecture and seminar to our faculty and students of the Department of Economics. Dr. Weber was accompanied by Dr. Li Bin from Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

Dr. Weber's research interests include the history of economic thoughts, international trade, Chinese economy, price theory and monetary theory. She has been awarded the Warren Samuel Prize, the Joan Robinson Prize and the Keynes Prize.

At the seminar on March 22nd, Dr. Weber presented her working paper Inflation in Times of Overlapping Emergencies: Systemically Significant Prices from an Input-output Perspective . Associate Professor Yao Wanjun of the Department of Economics presented his working paper Farmers’ Vulnerability, Production-oriented Investment and Income Growth. The participating teachers, including Sun Jingyu, Hu Qiuyang, Qiao Xiaonan, Yao Wanjun, Yang Guang, Zhang Yun, Wang Yongxing and Liang Junshang, discussed these papers in open and constructive atmosphere.

On March 23rd, Dr Weber presented her another working paper, Sellers' Inflation, Profits and Conflict: Why can Large Firms Hike Prices in an Emergency? More than 30 teachers and students exchanged opinions with Dr. Weber about the current hard inflation in Europe and U.S, and introduced Chinese successful efforts to stable price level.

The Department of Economics of University of Massachusetts Amherst is a world-famous teaching and research center of Marxist political economy. Dr. Weber's successful visit furthered the relationship between these two departments, laying a bridge for future exchange visits, academic communication and education cooperation.
