Yang Siqiang and Sun Chengjiu Attended the 11th Biennial Conference of Hong Kong Society of Economists

(Correspondent: Wang Tianjian) From December 13th to 16th 2023, Dr. Yang Siqiang and Dr. Sun Chengjiu of our school attended the 11th biennial conference of the Hong Kong Society of Economists held at University of Hong Kong, and presented their papers in the parallel sessions of the conference.

On the morning of December 15th, Dr. Yang Siqiang presented his paper “Nominal Exchange Rate Volatility, Default Risk and Reserve Accumulation” in the parallel session of “Default and Bank Run”, and had in-depth discussions with researchers of IMF and other scholars. The paper studies the impact of exchange rate volatility on sovereign debts and foreign exchange reserve accumulation.

On the afternoon of December 15th, Dr. Sun Chengjiu presented his paper “Historical Climatic Risk and Long-Run Economic Growth: Evidence from China” in the parallel session of “Economic History”, and had in-depth discussions with scholars from University of Hong Kong, Zhejiang University, and ShanghaiTech University. The paper studies the impact of historical climate risk on long-term economic development.

The conference was organized by the Hong Kong Society of Economists which aims at promoting exchanges and cooperation in the field of economics and contributing to the further development of economic research. This conference included keynote speeches delivered by top-level economists such as Professor Matthew O.Jackson and Professor Alireza Tahbaz-Salehi, as well as numerous presentations in the parallel sessions, which covered the topics of macroeconomics, microeconomics, developmental economics, international economics, labor economics, econometrics, behavioral economics, and cliometrics.
