Zhao Laixun is a professor at the Research Institute for Economics and Business, Kobe University. His main research interests include international economics, innovation and economic growth, environmental economics, labor mobility, and Chinese economy (especially the household registration system). He has published papers in first-class international journals such as Journal of International Economics, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Journal of Environmental Economics & Management, Journal of Urban Economics, Journal of Economic Dynamics & Control, and Journal of Mathematical Economics. In 2011, he received the Kojima Kiyoshi Prize awarded by the Japan Society of International Economics, and by far he is the only non-Japanese scholar that has received this prize.
