2025-08-29
Dr. Meng Xiaoyu, Dr. Zhang Jian, Dr. Zhang Shumeng, and Dr. Zhang Wan from our school attended the 2025 World Congress of the Econometric Society (ESWC 2025), held in Seoul, Republic of Korea, from August 18 to 22, 2025, and presented their papers in parallel contributed sessions.
On the afternoon of August 19, Dr. Meng Xiaoyu presented the co-authored working paper “Threshold Spatial Panel Regression with Fixed Effects” in the parallel contributed session on inference for spatial models. He also engaged in discussions with scholars from universities and research institutions including London Metropolitan University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, Emory University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The paper focuses on the estimation and inference of threshold spatial panel models with fixed effects.
Dr. Zhang Jian chaired the parallel contributed session on debiased machine learning on the afternoon of August 20, during which he also presented the working paper “Doubly Robust Estimation and Inference in a High Dimensional Transformation Model” in the session. He discussed with scholars from the University of California, Irvine, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cornell University, Brown University, and other universities. The paper analyzes doubly robust estimation in a high dimensional transformation model.
On the afternoon of August 20, Dr. Zhang Shumeng attended the parallel contributed session on family economics, where she presented her working paper “Intrahousehold Resource Allocation, Son Preference, and Fertility Restrictions: A Tale of Birth Order”. She exchanged ideas with scholars from the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Copenhagen Business School, Jinan University, and other universities. The paper studies issues of intrahousehold resource allocation and human capital inequality.
On the morning of August 18, Dr. Zhang Wan presented the working paper titled “Nonparametric Identification in Generalized Separable Models” in the parallel contributed session on nonparametric methods. He held academic discussions with scholars from universities such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Pompeu Fabra University, the London School of Economics and Political Science. The paper develops weaker identification conditions for nonparametric functions in generalized separable models.
The conference is a World Congress hosted by the Econometric Society, which occurs only once every five years and is the focal point of the Society’s meetings. It featured keynote speeches by leading economists, including Larry Samuelson, President of the Econometric Society, and brought together scholars from around the world. With an academic agenda covering all aspects of economics, the conference reflects the very best work in the profession.
